STUDENTS KICKED THE PASS OUT OF EACH OTHER
During the exciting Championship night, Intramural sports ran its 12th annual Punt Pass & Kick challenge. The competition was very close but no one could stop the unstoppable force that is Cory Roads. Cory Punted, kicked, and threw his way to the overall intramural PPK championship. Joining Cory has Intramural champions were Joey Bernardo who had the longest kick of 65 yards and Matthew Gowin who showed off tremendous arm strength that Division 1 schools dream about throwing the ball an amazing 60 yards! Thank you to all the players who contributed in making this tourney a success.
WHAT A SPOOKTACULAR SUCCESS
In an epic battle of titans Team Beautiful edged out Dodgeballers 4-2 in the women’s championship game. Megan Edgley led her team to the first win getting two of four girls out in one throw, but while celebrating was knocked out. Dodgeballers not to be out done came back and won two straight games. Seeing that their hopes may be dashed soon Team Beautiful came back to win the final three games to win it all. In the Open Division, Elastic Disaster Stretches all the way to a seven game series to take the first ever Dodgeball Spooktacular Open Title over the Pie Throwers. A game that included fantastic catches and acrobatic dodging took every single minute and player available. In the end a winner had to be decided and Elastic Disaster came up big in the final game.
Congratulations to the Pink Ladies for the best team costume. Elton Mok decided team work was not for him, and wanted a championship shirt all to himself.
AND THE WiiNNER IS......
After three exciting filled competitive days of Wii Bowling, the competition has finally come to an end. Three weekly winners were crowned as Corey Glass won week 1 with an outstanding 243, week 2 was won by Gillian Munter who bowled a 202 and finally week 3 was won by J’son Daughtry who bowled a 214 to narrowly defeat Danielle Voss, who was our overall Wii Bowling champion by accumulating over a thousand pins during her 3 day Wii Bowling escapade. However, not surprisingly none of these valiant competitors could defeat Supervisor Zach Moncilovich’s record Wii Bowling score of 257. Congratulations to all of these wonderful Wii-athletes and a special thank you to Brooklyn Pizza for hosting this wonderful event.
TABLE TENNIS AWAKENS THE FAITHFUL
TCompetitors awoken on October 24th not to smell bacon and eggs cooking on the stove but the sweet sweet smell of competition in the early morning. Well they might have smelled a little bit of bacon due to the fact the tournament was held next to Marketplace. None the less, the tournament began at 9:45 with the hope and desire to attain the IM Champion Shirt for Table Tennis. In the womens bracket, Joleen Soares forced a 5th set versus Alina Siddiqui. Alina came out on top and can now bee seen wearing her championship shirt around campus. Sean Varela used the entire table in the rec championship match agains Juan Delgadillo in route to his first ever championship. Jack Brunson bulldozed the competition on his way to the comp final. Tom Whitcomb had his number early on to force Jack into some compromising situations. Jack persevered in the end and pulled the shirt over his head in celebration.
DOUBLE D’S KNOCK DOWN THE COMPETITION!
On the chilly Monday night of October 21st, 2009, thirty-one teams of four came to Boardwalk Bowl to participate in the semi-annual MidKnight bowling competition. All skill levels came to play, but in our 9 pin no-tap tournament style game we were looking for the most pins knocked down after 3 games. It looked to be a sure win for team Shabbes with 850 pins in the first game and 851 in the second game. However, team Double D’s came through the back door and had one game of 916 pins! Double D’s stole the thunder from Shabbes winning with a total number of pins of 2445 vs. Shabbes’ 2351. Our individual best men bowlers unsurprisingly came from these two teams tied at 297 pins, Brandon Geick and Steven Sherman took home the prize. While on the women’s side Hannah Seibert bowled a high of 225!
New Champions are crowned in Badminton
The first saturday of fall began with a thrilling badminton tournament. Participants realized that this is their shot at becoming one of the elite badminton players on campus. Both the Men's and Women's bracket were stacked full of competition. The crowd favorite Adeel Bhutta was ousted in the semi-finals by Faraze Hussain. Last years champion Daniel Findlay dominated his way all the way to the finals, but fell short against Faraze Hussain. On the womens side, Xinili Gerig went through a gauntlet of competitors to reach the top.
93 wasn't just the temperature, it was the winning score
As sweat poured down the faces of mini golf enthusiasts everywhere, Bobby Hermes and Adam Boutin were as cool as the other side of the pillow. With a combined score of 93, they blew away their competition as the next closest score was a 94 shot by Brendon Crooks and Ricky Sakata. Thank you to the participants that braved the heat and made this event successful. As per recommendations the Intramural Department will work on lowering the temperature for next year.
Breindogs Power Their Way to Team Handball Championship
On Saturday, October 10th the Team Handball Tournament went on at the Recreation and Wellness Center. 13 teams participated in the event, but one outlasted them all, and that was the Breindogs. The Breindogs went undefeated in pool play gaining a number one seed and a bye in the tournament. They then steamrolled their way to the finals defeating Delta Tau Delta and Balls to the Wall. They faced LAX in the finals. LAX had just come off the most exciting win of the day in the Semi-Finals. They beat Smokeywear 13-12 in sudden death overtime, in the only overtime game of the day. However, this may have been their demise as the effort put into their Semi-Final game may have drained their energy for the finals. The Breindogs scored the first four goals against LAX and never looked back in the finals. Congratulations to the Breindogs, your Team Handball Champions, and thank you to all the teams that participated in the event.
It’s a good old fashioned 2 for 1 at the 4 Person Golf Scramble!
One winner just was not enough this year in the 4 Person Golf Scramble at Wedgefield Golf Club. Two of the thirty-seven teams that participated posted a score of 61 (-11) to be named the first champions of the year! I Like Big Putts and Prestige Worldwide were the two teams that posted the amazing score of 61 in tough, windy conditions at Wedgefield. Both teams had bogey free rounds. I Lik Big Putts was very consistent throughout the day and had a 30 (-6) on the front nine and a 31 (-5) on the back nine, including an amazing stretch of 8 consecutive birdies from Hole 7 to Hole 14. Prestige Worldwide had tougher time on the front nine with a 32 (-4), but posted the low 9 of the day with a 29 (-7) on the back nine to catch up with I Like Big Putts and tie for the win. Prestige Worldwide also had a long streak of birdies from Hole 9 to Hole 15 with 7 consecutive birdies. Team Fore came a stroke away from making it a three way tie at the top by posting a 62 (-10). There was also a longest drive and closest to the pin competition. Allen Levy of Theta Chi won the longest drive competition on the par 4, 9th with a monster drive hit about 290 yards! Travis Boersma of Team Tom Staton won the closest to the pin competition on the par 3, 14th where he hit his ball 3 feet from the pin! Congratulations to all our champions, and thanks to all the teams for participating in the event this year.
SIGMA PI WINS INAUGURAL OVERTIME CHALLENGE
We kicked off our first annual Intramural Overtime Challenge this past Saturday September 12th, 2009. Despite drastic changes from rain to shine, 14 teams came out to showcase their redzone plays. The crowd favorite, MIST was upset in the Semi’s by 4th Floor Crew in two Overtimes by merely one point 14 – 13. On the other side of the bracket, Sigma Pi was silently taking their victims, even defeating the number one seed Undrafted Yet Again. In the final game Sigma Pi and 4th Floor Crew faced off with 4th Floor Crew having first possession. Sigma Pi wasn't letting anything get by, shutting out 4th Floor until they gained their change at scoring in Overtime. They pulled out a Touchdown which immediately ended the game and Sigma Pi's players erupted as they had just won the first UCF Overtime Challenge in history!

TRIPLE OVERTIME NAMES DISC GOLF CHAMPION
On Friday, July 31, the championship for disc golf took place. Everyone showed up expecting a simple nine holes of disc golf but it turned into a fight to the bitter end with the first nine holes ending in a triple tie. Those three men then went to the deadly 18th hole where the lake, trees, and Gemini road were all their enemies. Out of the first overtime Drew Benson and Mike Vene were tied again. They played the 18th hole two more times in order for Drew to come out victorious as the new Disc Golf Champion for Intramural Sports.
BADMINTON DOUBLES PROVE TO BE TEAM EVENT
Bad Hitten Men dominated the Rec League during pool play after winning all but one of their pool play games. It was during the championship match, though, that they met their rival Knuckle Children. Winning the first game of that match by the skin of their teeth 15-14, they moved onto the second game with a vengeance winning 15-10.
As for the Comp League, Jai Xo entered the championship undefeated and was matched against the second placed team Wings. But Jai Xo was relentless and won both matches by at least ten points to acquire the Summer 20009 Badminton Doubles Championship title.
PHI DELT SCORES 7 IN LAST INNING
On a glorious Friday afternooon out at the IM softball field, Phi Delt took home the third annual Nickel Softball championship by defeating the Breindogs and We Miss Heidi in what will go down as the greatest Nickel softball game ever played. The fireworks would happen late as the Breindogs took what would look to be a commanding 6 run last inning lead on the heels of David Wilsnack's clutch two out GRAND SLAM. However, Phi Delt was able to show the heart of a champion and comeback and put together a 7 run inning of their own to win the game on a Scott Vogel line drive to left field to seal the deal by one run.
8 UNDER PAR AND OVER THE REST
On the scorching day of June 12th, 2009, 24 teams of 2 showed up at Deer Run to participate in a full day of Golf Scramble (click for team Totals). Still Got It hit their way to a championship T-Shirt, shooting a 63 which was 8 under par. Jennifer MacLeod of the special Ops took the title of highest female bowler with a score of 148, but no one could come close to Sean Simpson who bowled a high score of 244 earning his spot as highest male bowler and IM Champion.
RIO PINAR SHOOT A RECORD LOW
The duo of Roger Frosio and Thomas Stampley made the Twin Rivers Golf Course look like their playground. Rio Pinar shot a record low 63 for a -9 on the day. "All of the conditions were favorable for a low scoring day. The fairways were fast and the greens were soft," as said by Ben Marcello, Tournament Director. The rest of the teams were unable to take the next step and sink the putts that they needed to in order to catch up. On the 10th hole Thomas Stampley drove the ball 312 yards, further than anyone else in the tournament. But the shot of the day came on the Par 3 Hole 12 when Justin Rizzo put the ball 6 feet from the pin. He eventually knocked in the put for birdie. [RESULTS]
QUARTERBACKS VIE
FOR THE DETROIT LIONS ATTENTION
On Friday March 27th, UCF IM Sports held their own
pro day for all the quarterbacks of Intramural Sports. 27 Qbs came out to
test their skills against each other. Surprisingly no one won more than one
event. The resident IM Sports Draft Analyst Zach Moncilovich said, "This
could be one of the deepest quarterback classes in recent years. Many teams
should be able to find a quarterback for the future in this years draft.
This class has everything from big arms to quick feet to pinpoint accuracy."
Bret Eiserman showed off his golden left arm by throwing the ball 63 yards.
Harris Schley showcased his speed and agility by running completing the
challenge course in a total of 3.00 seconds. When it came down to pure
accuracy Matt Gowin and Matt Zarek had a showdown which was eventually won
by the early-commit Matt Gowin. The women's class of quarterbacks was also
full of talent. The highly touted talent of Kristina Valdes-Pages was
highlighted in every event. Kristina made it look easy during the accuracy
challenge. A bit of stumble during the obstacle course put her behind the
quick feet of Kimberly Boberman. Krysteena Mallard put all of her might to
launch her throw further than Kristina Valdes-Pages. [Click Here for Results]

TEAM VAN DE VELDE DOESN'T CHOKE UNDER PRESSURE
This year's Sports Trivia was one for the ages. All of the teams took a sports knowledge test to determine their seeding in the bracket. The three brackets were a challenge for each team. Team Van de Velde won the Big Head Bracket, The Winning Team won the Big Mouth Bracket and Acid Reflux emerged from the Loss of Hair Bracket. The three teams faced off in Championship Jeopardy. Van de Velde seemed to be a bottom feeder after the Jeopardy round with a total of 700 points while Acid Reflux and the Winning Team were tied at 2000. The Final Jeopardy question was sure to determine the winner. All of the teams wagered it all as the final category of NFL MVPs was revealed. Both Acid Reflux and The Winning Team were unable to remember who the last defensive player was to win the NFL MVP, but Van de Velde was. Of course it was the beast that was Lawrence Taylor. Congratulations to team Van de Velde.
